How To: Lemonade

Is there anything as refreshing as lemonade on a hot summer day?

And real lemonade is also refreshingly simple.
It's made from just lemons, sugar and water. That's it.

Of course, there's a bit more investment than using powdered, squeezing lemons and all that.
But I think you'll find that the results are worth it.

It's also very customizable. If you like a lighter flavor, use less lemons and sugar.
If you like a tart lemonade or are wary of using a lot of sugar, cut back on the sugar.
 However you like it.

Fresh-squeezed Lemonade
Makes a Half-Gallon

8 cups water
1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (This took 7 lemons for me, but they were quite small)
1 cup sugar
Lemon slices, if you'd like

This is all you need to make lemonade!

Start by slicing your lemons in half.

And then squeeze out the juice using a citrus reamer.
I love my old-fashioned one, but they have hand-helds that work well too.

Squeeze enough lemons to get 1 cup of juice. Make sure to remove the seeds!

Add the lemon juice (pulp and all) to the water and stir in the sugar.
Taste and adjust as you'd like.

If you'd like to be fancy, slice a lemon and float the slices in the lemonade.

A tip though...the rind of the lemon will make your lemonade bitter over time. So add the lemon slices just before serving and take them out before storing any leftover lemonade in the fridge.

Happy squeezing.
